The Most Rev. John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD, Bishop of Donkorkrom Diocese in the Kwahu Afram Plains, Eastern Region of Ghana, administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 33 candidates from across various Outstations of the St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Maame Krobo, on Pentecost Sunday.

The May 24, 2026 Confirmation Mass, which took place at the main Parish Church, was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Bernard Kwabena Amfo, Assisting Priest at the Parish, and featured Candidates from Maame Krobo (18), Asanyansu (10), Domi (3) and Bonkrom (2).

In a homily during the Mass, the Chief Shepherd reflected on the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and upon all humanity, as Jesus had promised, as featured in the First Reading (Acts 2:1-11). He buttressed on the marvels and goodness of the Lord, illustrated in the gifts of different tongues that the people were able to speak and understand, because they had been empowered by the Holy Spirit.

The Bishop assured the Candidates for Confirmation that through the Sacrament, they will receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit in a very special way, especially since it was Pentecost Sunday.

Touching on the Gospel (John 20:19-23), where Jesus appeared to the frightened Disciples in the Upper Room, and breathed the Holy Spirit into them, the prelate underlined two special gifts brought about by the Spirit: Peace and forgiveness of Sins.

Receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation on such a special Feast – Pentecost, the Bishop maintained that the candidates were even more blessed; blessed with the Peace of God, blessed by being reminded of the need to forgive always, blessed to know that the Lord has given each one of them different gifts, with which they could also contribute to the growth and development of the Church and the entire human family.

“God is giving you courage through the gifts of the Holy Spirit to witness to your faith, that your life may be a proclamation of the Good News that you have yourself witnessed about Christ,” he reiterated, praying that the Spirit may inspire, strengthen and guide them, as they bear witness to Christ who had called them.

He urged the faithful to learn to forgive one another from the heart, after the example of Jesus who forgives humankind of their sins and commands all to do same for their brothers and Sisters.

In a brief address to the faithful after the Mass, the Bishop lauded the St. Joseph (female-dominated) Choir that had sang at the Mass. He made a passionate appeal to the men in the Church to also join the choir so that they could use their God-given voices to praise God.

The Church Chairman, Mr. Mawulawoe Kwasi Kudohia, expressed appreciation to the Bishop on behalf of the Parish, for his visit, and thanked him especially for choosing their Parish for his first Pastoral Visit after his appointment as First Bishop of Donkorkrom Diocese.
