The five persons among the couples received the Sacrament of Confirmation, and one received Baptism.
The July 19, 2025, Holy Mass, which took place at the St. Arnold Jansen Catholic Church Abotanso, an Outstation of the Cathedral, was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Matthew Akakpo, Assisting Priest at the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral.
In a homily during the Mass of Holy Matrimony, the Cathedral Administrator charged the newly wedded to continue living and relying on their faith, and to be ever ready to bring their needs before the Lord, saying that in all humility, their prayers will be answered.
Making further reference to the Blessed Mother who at the wedding Feast at Cana intervened in the couple’s challenge of wine, the celebrant implored the faithful to always call on Mary, who is ever ready to carry their intentions to her Son.
“If we present our petitions through Mary to her son, Jesus, we will by all means get whatever we need,” he buttressed.
Fr. Adjei opined that ever since God created “woman,” He has never rested; He has continued His work of creation through humanity. There is, thus, the need for human dignity to be respected by all, as so doing, God, the Creator, is being respected.
His prayerful wish for the couples whom the Church had prepared for some years now was that God would continue to bless and lead them, and their children, the fruits of their union, may be good citizens; “people who care for one another and show love”.
The Cathedral Administrator expressed that it was a happy coincidence that the date the couples had chosen for the mass wedding happened to be the same day of his Priestly anniversary.
“Today, we celebrate double double,” he stated.
The heavily attended and joy-filled wedding Mass featured Christians from across various Stations of the Parish, who had rallied round to witness the maiden event in the Abotanso Catholic Church.
Also present were members of the Church of Pentecost at Abotanso, led by their Pastor, who had come to identify with one of the celebrants.
Fr. Adjei Appiah, together with the Most Rev. John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD, Bishop of Donkorkrom Apostolic Vicariate, Rev. Fr. Kizito Amuzu Kotoka, Rev. Fr. Fred Agyemang, and Rev. Fr. Egblowugbe Joseph, had been ordained on July 19, 1997, at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, Accra, by the late Emeritus Archbishop Dominic Andoh.
