Bishop John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD

Most Rev. John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD, was born on May 12, 1962, in Adeemmra-Kwahu, Ghana. He received his early education at various schools, completing his secondary education in 1984 and his sixth form in 1987. In the same year, he joined the SVD formation program and studied philosophy at St. Victor’s Major Seminary, Tamale, before entering the SVD Novitiate in 1990. After professing his first religious vows in 1991, he completed his theological studies, including overseas training in Mexico. He was ordained a priest on July 19, 1997, by Archbishop Dominic Kodwo Andoh.

Bishop Asiedu served in various roles, including assistant priest at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Kwahu Tafo, director of the Overseas Training Programme, and assistant novice master. He also completed a postgraduate course in Human Growth and Development in England. He served as SVD Ghana Province Treasurer and the Prefect of the SVD Common Formation Centre in Tamale.

In 2017, he became the Novice Director at the Divine Word Novitiate, and in 2019, he was appointed Bishop and Apostolic Vicar of the Apostolic Vicariate of Donkorkrom. Bishop Asiedu is fluent in English, Spanish, Twi, Ewe, and Nkonya and enjoys reading, music, gardening, and animal rearing.

Bishop Gabriel Edoe Kumordji, SVD

Bishop Gabriel Edoe Kumordji, SVD, was born on March 24, 1956, in Accra, Ghana. He completed his early education in Accra before entering St. Victor’s Major Seminary in 1976 for priestly formation. He made his first religious profession in 1980 and was ordained a priest in 1985. He served in various pastoral roles, including as Assistant Priest and Pastor, before studying in the USA, where he earned Master’s and PhD degrees in Pastoral Studies and Inter-Cultural Studies.

In 2005, he was appointed Ghana Provincial Superior of the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD) and later became the Apostolic Prefect and Vicar of Donkorkrom. He was ordained Bishop in 2007 and served in several leadership roles within the Ghana Bishops’ Conference, including chairing key committees and being involved in religious education and investment projects.

On March 16, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him as the second Bishop of Keta-Akatsi Diocese.
